The academic crisis is diminishing. It's not over yet, but I'm really excited about this:
Summit films has cast Robert Pattinson as Edward in the Twilight movie. The movie begins production in February. In case you didn't already know, Kristen Stewart is Bella.
Pattinson is best known as Cedric Diggory in HP4, and Stewart is best known for her role in Panic Room with Jodie Foster. I think they'll be good. So does Stephenie Meyer. I loved what she said (on her MySpace) about Pattinson:
I want you to know that I am really very pleased about this choice. Robert hasn't been one of the popular fan choices whose faces pop up on my comments page all the time, so I'd never really thought about him in the role before. When I got the news, it took me a little while to consider it (like a lot of you, I was pretty attached to the first person I'd cast in my head as Edward, so I had to readjust for a minute). I looked at all the pictures I could find, finally got around to watching HP4 (which I own, but had never seen before), and I read through the script picturing Robert in the role.
By the time I was done with my research (writing: a line of work where you can legitimately call drooling over hot boys "research."), I was kind of shocked that I'd never considered Robert before. Aside from my dearest Henry [Cavill], Robert is truly the first person I've pictured in the role who I think can pull it off. The boy just looks like a vampire.
Also, I hear very encouraging things from the people who watched his auditions. They've been at this for months now, you know, reading Edward hopefuls day after day. Robert knocked their socks off; once he read for the part, the search was over. In other good news, apparently there is excellent chemistry between Robert and Kristen (they have all the major actors read together to make sure they fit), his American accent is flawless, AND he's read all three novels!
So YAY! for Robert Pattinson!
Did you hear that? Stephenie has the script! That's so cool! Also, Rob Pattinson has read all three books! Emma Roberts, last year's Nancy Drew, had never read a Nancy Drew book. She did a good job in the movie, but still. How hard is it to read a Nancy Drew? Anyway, I appreciate that the Edward of the silver screen has read the books.
For photos of the actors, I recommend imdb.com, and also the official Twilight movie page: http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/twilight_movie.html.
Fun!!!

I'm okay with him too. Like Stephenie, I never even considered him. But, now that he's been cast, I don't think I could be happier. I was worried about his British accent, but since his American accent if flawless, then my worry not a worry anymore! Yay!
Ok, so at first, I was like "Cedric? I don't know how I feel about that." And he's not blonde. But then I looked at a couple of pics, and I decided I concur with Stephenie- the boy just looks like a vampire! Are they going to dye his hair though? I just don't know if that would look good. And I'm very interested to see how they do the sunlit skin effect :-)
I'm interested in that too, Hilary. Like, will they just change it and make it something lamer like they did with Eragon's palm? Its gonna be tricky to pull off. Anyway, I think Edward is supposed to have bronze hair, not blond hair, so I dunno if they'll dye it or what. And I was just like you with the whole "Cedric?" thing until I saw him in some non-HP photos. Did I already say that in the post?
