The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle
Avi, 215 pages, 1990

Miss Charlotte Doyle is bound for America after spending the last several years at finishing school in England. Unfortunately the well laid plans of her father go awry when Charlotte ends up making the journey alone with a crew of mutinous sailors and the punctilious Captain Jaggery.

I would definitely recommend this book. It is an excellent piece of historical fiction that is intriguing and suspenseful and filled with believable characters. Originally recommended to me by a fourth grade teacher, it's also a favorite of one of my cousins. This Newbery Honor book deserves all the attention it can get.

Is the one of your cousins Andrew? He's not THAT into reading but has read this book twice.
