A Tale of Two Computers

Curses! I was going to post pictures, but now I realize that none of them are on this computer.  See, recently Jacob acquired some computer parts.  Wait.  Let me take you back. To the beginning.

When I was a child, my family began getting computers.  Eventually there were so many of them that they could no longer be referred to as "the computer" or "the new computer" or "the one in the living room" etc.  They had to have names: George, Josh, Bob, Leo, Katie, Stacy, Justice, Mercy, etc.  Each name has a story behind it.

Fast forward to 2006.  When Jacob learned I had a laptop, Gypsy, he married me.  But it didn't take too long for him to start dreaming of a desktop.  And then Gypsy went blind -- which is to say her monitor died and she had to be hooked up externally.  So when some friends of ours hollered "Free computer! Who wants it?" Jacob was all up on that.  He got the old beast, which we named Gertrude, tinkered with it a bit and had it running in decent shape. Good enough for him, but not for me.  I've gots to be able to watch my YouTubes, y'all.

Now you're up to speed.  Recently, Jacob acquired some computer parts.  These he inspected, cleaned, and decided to use.  Gerty was getting a hip replacement.  But wait!  For a mere $30, Jacob could get an actual video card for this one!  So, with a different exterior and a mish mash of parts, we (okay, Jacob.  I'm definitely the Igor of this story) flipped the switch, and FrankenGerty was born!

And now it (he? she?) is our main computer.  This was delightful for two days while Benjamin couldn't figure out which buttons to push. But now I realize all my pictures are still on Gypsy, and I'm far too lazy at the moment to boot her up and post them.

Instead, you all get to bask in the glow of a wife who is very proud of her genius husband and $30 "new" computer. :)

I love that you name the computers. It's so funny and so awesome. I need to name my computer now as Corey and I have quite a at our house too.

Haha, sounds like my family. My brother was a computer tinkerer, too (still is, except he's on a mission) and we always had a lot. Josh and I need (well, want) a new computer. This one is slooooow.
