Holling Hoodhood, a seventh grader in the late 1960's, finds himself in a sticky school situation. Everyone else in his class leaves school early on Wednesdays for religious reasons, and Mrs. Baker could have had two hours off if Holling wasn't there. But Mrs. Baker isn't the only adversary -- Holling has to deal with runaway rats, Shakespeare, and Mickey Mantle, too.
I would recommend this book to pretty much anyone from about 4th grade on up, and especially fans of realistic fiction. The book is a 2008 Newbery Honor book, and the writing is top-notch. Humor is abundant -- you can't help but laugh at Holling's observations, not to mention some of the crazy things that happen to him. You can't go wrong with this one.
