Anticipation

Recently, I have found myself anticipating the release of several books. I know that there are scads of excellent ones out there that are already published (and I'm working on some of those, too), but there is something fun about looking forward to things.

So, I have created a poll (see right). In honor of said poll, I'm giving you a few quick links and things to help you make your choice...

In order of release:

The 13th Reality -- James Dashner (author of the Jimmy Fincher series). Release date: March 3, 2008. I've already blogged about this one a bit, so pop over here if you've forgotten.

Suite Scarlett
-- Maureen Johnson (author of The Key to the Golden Firebird). Release date: May 1, 2008. This book is the first in a series about a family that owns an Art Deco hotel in New York. That's about all I know about it -- oh, and that its main character is named Scarlett, and the book opens on her 15th birthday, and, well, just read the first chapter. I'm looking forward to it.

The Host -- Stephenie Meyer (author of the Twilight series). Release date: May 6, 2008. This book has been talked about as "science fiction for people who don't like science fiction" (though I don't know who wouldn't like SF) and "possibly the first love triangle involving only two bodies." Check out this page for a more complete synopsis and link to a teaser chapter. It looks like it's gonna be good.

Breaking Dawn -- Stephenie Meyer (same as above, duh). Release date: August 2, 2008. The final installment of the Bella & Edward story. 'Nuff said. But, the cover and first chapter of it will be released on May 31, 2008, inside the "special edition" of Eclipse. Watch www.stepheniemeyer.com for official updates and such.

Rapunzel's Revenge
-- Shannon & Dean Hale (Shannon has authored all of the Bayern books, and won a Newbery Honor for Princess Academy. Dean is her humorous husband, who has many accomplishments, but hasn't published any books of his own yet). Release date: August 19, 2008. Umm, look at the title. Don't you want to read it? Also, it is a graphic novel. So, like, comic book style. And Rapunzel is all wild west. And she uses her hair as a lasso and stuff! I pretty much can't wait. The link I had for some teaser artwork was sadly lost in a server crash. But Shannon's site is here, and Dean writes a wicked microstory.

Paper Towns -- John Green (author of An Abundance of Katherines & brother of Brotherhood 2.0). Release date: October 16, 2008. Pretty much, I don't know a lot about this book except that I've heard the first chapter of it (and you can too!) read by John Green himself in two parts of less than 4 min each. And I wanna know what happens in the park!!! Should be awesome.

So, which are you most excited about?

Hmm...interesting list... You've forgotten a few though. For instance, Gail Carson Levine's "Ever" set to come out this spring/early summer. Or how 'bout Christopher Paolini's third Inheritance book "Brisingr". I just don't know if I can add my vote without a full scope of choices...;)

Uh-oh, Alysa. You just got punk'd by Laura. You'd better put those books on the poll.
